Googles New Micropayment System: Your Wallet Online

Googles diligent attempt in becoming a leader in e-commerce is unstoppable! After its success on launching various services such as Google Base, Google Earth, Google Store, Google AdWords, Google Video and many others, the search giant is still keen on spreading its wings. This time around their aim is to try their hand on online payment services.

Since early June of last year, various rumors had been circulating on the net about Googles new payment system. Although the exact plans and details of Googles new service remains in the shadow, millions of online enthusiasts all across the globe were running on fevered pitch trying to uncover the mystery behind Googles so-called payment system dubbed the Google Wallet.

Fortunately, the yearlong mystery will finally unravel since Google Inc. announced that they are set to launch their highly anticipated payment system this week, possibly as early as Wednesday or Thursday. Naturally, its main objective is to make shopping online faster and more convenient. But even before its launch, the search giants new service seemed to be facing various obstacles already.

One of the biggest obstacles in its way is the risk of antagonizing one of their biggest advertisers eBay. Why you ask? Well, majority of Googles revenues are derive from online advertising and one of their biggest patron is eBay, who bought PayPal, the current leading online payment service, for $1.3 billion in 2002. Moreover, PayPal comprises about 25% of eBays total revenue. Now by launching an online payment service that could be a possible competition for PayPal would cause a serious blow not only to PayPal, but to eBay as well.

At the moment two merchants have already signed up for Google’s new payment system, namely Starbucks Corporation and http://Buy.com. Incidentally, these two merchants also accept PayPal. Experts are already making their own predictions regarding the possible turn in the relationship between the two companies and the rivalry that is currently brewing between them.

However, about two weeks earlier Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt finally faced the press and acknowledged that Google indeed have plans to launch a payment system. But he firmly denied the allegations that they would be directly competing with eBays PayPal. According to Schmidt their system will target the advertisers alone and not the general consumers as most of the speculations implied.

Without going through the exact details, Schmidt explained that the solution they are working on is more of an extension of their existing programs. Most people believed that it’s likely an extension of the payment service that Google utilizes in handling their paid search ad program, though this time it will probably encompass different kinds of content.

So, just how does Google’s new micropayment system works? Well, most people assumed that Googles payment service would have the same premise as PayPal. It would act as some sort of electronic wallet that will allow consumers to purchase products as well as services from different merchants without giving out their personal and financial information repeatedly. This is actually a preferred payment method among consumers since it reduces the risk of credit card fraud.

With Google Wallet, users need only key in their credit card number together with some other information and the company will send out the payments to the participating merchants. Now this is where Googles payment service differs from Paypal, merchants are required to advertise on Google in order to participate. In turn, merchants need not pay for the processing fees on purchases that sum to about 10 times their advertising volume with Google. For instance, an advertiser who spends $10,000 a month at Google need not pay any processing fees on purchases that amount to $100,000. But once the merchant exceeds their spending threshold, Google will then charge them a fee equal to 2 percent of the purchase amount, plus 20 cents per transaction. Either way, it is still relatively lower than Paypals fee.

In conjunction with the Google Wallet rumor is the speculation that the search engine king will soon begin charging people for streaming video content from their site. A lot of people believed that the problems that had been encountered during the streaming of several videos in the previous weeks are clear indications that Google is about to switch to a pay-per-view model.

The rumors surfaced after Google Video head Jennifer Feikin mentioned in passing that they have plans to offer video content on a pay-per-view model, with the content owners giving their own price tags. The company even began soliciting videos, where uploaders are requested to tag the files with a corresponding per-view price. Google also aims to take a share of the price and possibly even charge a hosting fee.

Although a formal announcement is yet to be made, most consumers are already resigned to the idea that Google will indeed offer videos on a pay-per-access basis in the not so distant future. Most people also believed that Googles new micropayment system, Google Wallet will be used to send and receive payments for the video content.

Micropayments can be a double edge sword. Sure, micropayments are generally more secure and more convenient compare to using other payment method. On the other hand, it has a mental transaction cost that makes people think twice whether the product is indeed worth purchasing or not. Another risks to micropayment-based system is that they are prone to competitors who ends up with the notion that it is more effective to simply give the content away for free and then make money somewhere else.

But then again, once Google manages to overcome these hurdles (which they eventually would) it is highly possible that they will eventually succeed where PayPal, Yahoo and Microsoft failed to become an efficient payment system for a wide range of e-commerce transactions. As the old clinch goes, timing is everything and Googles timing is indeed truly perfect. What with Paypals customer services issues and other such outrage still fresh on the consumers mind it will not take long before the consumers start looking for other options.

Great Profit Potential Comes With Greater Risk

Perhaps you have been trading stocks for a long time. You believe that you have mastered the art known as trading and want to go even further. You think you are ready to play with the big boys now.

All right then, step right up to the plate and get prepared for some advanced stock market trading.

For advanced traders, using margin, selling short, getting into IPOs, and other quite sophisticated trading techniques and strategies can open a whole new world of exciting trading experiences and potential profits.

Understanding IPOs

IPOs or initial public offerings are a highly visible sign of the transition of a company from a privately owned organization to a publicly held firm. Every incorporated business issues common stock, although initially this is usually to a few stockholders. In order for a company to raise necessary capital without incurring debt, one commonly used method is to sell stock to the public, thereby becoming a publicly traded company.

There are two ways to potentially make money from these IPOs.

First, the trader needs to get in early and buy stocks through the initial public offering, hope for a large quick increase in share price, and then sell shares for a quick profit.

The other way is to sit back, watching and waiting until after the IPO has begun. See if the new stock is fairly priced. If its reasonable, then one would purchase the stock.

Shorting Stocks

Selling short is an advanced technique that many traders do not take advantage of. Short sellers look for the best stock to sell. Short sellers sell stock they dont actually own with a belief the value will come down by a significant amount in the near future. The shares are borrowed from a stockholder. The borrowing is done by each partys brokers.

When the price tumbles, the short sellers can buy the stock at the lower price to cover their short positions, pocket the profit and return the shares to the owners.

Short selling is risky though. If the prices jump instead of drop, you will lose money. It is often difficult to easily speculate if a stock will fall. The historical tendency of the average stock is to increase in price over the long term. So the potential for loss is greater than the potential for profit, because the short seller is going against a historical norm.

Margin Trading

Margin accounts can permit the trader to borrow money to buy stock. Margin trading uses borrowed money to increase how much stock the trader can buy. This money can be loaned by a broker.

If you were to buy a stock worth $1,000 on a cash basis, without the use of margin trading, you would have to dish out the full $1,000 dollars, plus commissions. But if you margin trade, your broker can lend you up to half of the amount or $500 on many stocks, and you only need to shoulder the other $500 plus commissions and interest payments.

If the stock gets you $10 per stock, profit will be based on the number of shares of stock you bought with $1,000. Then you can pay the broker back. If you did not margin trade, your profit would only have been for the number of shares of stock you paid for using cash. On the other hand, were the stock price to go down, the loss incurred would be based on the entire $1,000, and you would still owe the margin loan amount to the broker.

Closing

As with everything in life, there is a flip side to every coin. In many cases, the greater the profit, the greater the risk. Advanced trading is not for the faint of heart, and you should only trade with risk capital, not with money that you cant do without.

Great Tips in Overcoming Duodenal Ulcer

Increasingly more people suffer from digestive disorder nowadays. Statistics indicate that ulcer is the predominant condition among people with digestive problems. Ulcer develops due to inflammation and corrosion in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. Ulcers that occur at the level of the duodenum are referred to as duodenal ulcers, while ulcers that occur at the level of the stomach are called stomach or gastric ulcers. Duodenal ulcer is considered to be of a benign form, while gastric ulcer is considered to be very dangerous. People who suffer from stomach or gastric ulcer may develop more severe forms of the disorder such as perforate or bleeding ulcer. Perforate ulcer refers to breaches within the protective walls of the stomach or internal organs. Bleeding ulcer involves either slow or abundant bleeding of the lesions caused by the disorder.

Ulcer occurs due to the contamination with a certain bacteria called Helicobacter pylori. The bacteria alone cant produce ulcer, as research findings also indicate its presence in the organism of people who dont develop ulcer. However, the excessive secretion of gastric acid may cause the deterioration of the mucosal membrane covering the stomach, thus enabling infection with Helicobacter pylori. Duodenal ulcers and gastric, stomach ulcers that involve excessive secretion of hydrochloric acid and pepsin are called peptic ulcers.

Duodenal ulcer occurs to both sexes and regardless of age. However, statistics indicate that male persons are more likely to develop forms of duodenal ulcer than women. In order to prevent the development of either gastric or duodenal ulcer, it is important to control alcohol and caffeine intake. Smoking also contributes to acquiring and the development of duodenal ulcer and gastric ulcer, slowing the natural process of healing.

If a person is already diagnosed with a form of ulcer, keeping an appropriate ulcer diet can ameliorate the symptoms of the disorder and also improve the efficiency of the prescribed treatment. An ulcer diet should completely exclude beverages that are known to increase gastric acidity coffee, tea, (certain teas increase the PH values inside the stomach) milk, (although many people tend to think that milk is benefic for ulcer, in many cases it also increases acidity) alcohol, cola. The foods contained by a good ulcer diet should also be picked according to their level of acidity. It is important to avoid some anti-inflammatory medicines during an ulcer treatment (aspirin, ibuprofen) as they are known to augment the symptoms of the disorder.

Duodenal ulcers are considered to be the most easy to treat among other gastrointestinal disorders. The symptoms of duodenal ulcer ameliorate after only a few days of treatment. However, even after the improvement of the disorder, specific treatment needs to be administered until the complete remission of ulcer. Gastric ulcer is more problematic, as it tends to recidivate after certain periods of time. Gastric ulcer has a pronounced chronic character and it is more difficult to overcome the disorder. Regardless of the form of the ulcer, it is vital to diagnose the disorder quickly, in order to prevent further complications.

It has become a craze for a lot of people all over the world. Mountain climbing is no longer a simple activity of getting to the top but has become a challenge, or even an obsession, to most nature trippers, as well as to a number of sports enthusiasts. Others do it as an engaging diversion from the rigors of daily work and home routines. Those who are obsessed with it are compelled to master one discipline of mountain climbing to another. Various types of migraine

Various types of migraine are abdominal, basilar, complicated, hemiplegic, nocturnal, and cyclic migraine syndrome.

Abdominal migraine is also known as periodic syndrome which is common among children. It typically occurs to those have it in their heredity and this type may lead to a classic migraine. Symptoms of this type include periodic attacks of pain in the abdomen in approximately two hours.

Basilar migraine, also called Bickerstaff’s syndrome, typically affects adolescent women. This occurs when migraine obstructs the circulation the back part of the neck or brain. Its symptoms are dizziness, loss of balance, and even fainting.

Another type is the complicated migraine that usually occurs with extended aura that may last for a number of hours or could reach to few days. This type poses a risk of the disorder leading to changes in the neurological area of the brain which is associated with MRI scan changes, those that are present in stroke.

Hemiplegic migraine is the rarest among all types but one of the most severe. Its symptoms include temporary paralysis of the motor function and obstructions in the sensory system on a certain side of the body. As soon as the headache occurs, these symptoms may be gone.

When migraine attacks early morning, it is the nocturnal type. Studies show that this type of migraine is associated with adrenalin changes.

Cyclic migraine syndrome is the most disturbing when it comes to dealing with a persons daily activities. It occurs ten times or more every month.

Treatment

Doctors recommend over-the-counter pain relievers or anti-inflammatory medications namely:

Ibuprofen Motrin, Advil
Naproxen Alleve
Aspirin – Excedrin Migraine
Triptans
oSumatriptan Imitrex
oZolmitriptan Zomig
oNaratriptan Amerge

Triptans are a new class of migraine medications that aids in managing the source of pain. What it does is that it reduces the tendency of the blood vessels to swell in the brain and lessens inflammation; all these contribute to reducing the pain caused by migraine.

For natural treatment, just rest in a dark area, drink more water, and place a cloth soaked from cold water on your forehead.

Do not be terrified, it wouldnt help at all; just relax.

How to Manage the Risks of Pregnancy

During my internship I have met and interacted with a lot of special children and their parents. These children, because of their condition, have then become my patients. As part of providing an affective management for them, it is important for me to know the congenital history of their condition. Thus, I am required to ask their parents, usually their moms, regarding the details of their pregnancy. Most of the children’s conditions such as autism, cleft of the lip or palate, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment and mental retardation are congenital in origin and thus can be related to the events that had occurred during their conception. A number of previous researches have indicated that most women who get pregnant beyond the age of 35 may have a higher risk of having children who have mental retardation or have Down’s Syndrome. Some studies also show that exposure of pregnant women to teratogens such as rubella virus and radiation, has caused their children to have hearing impairment or cerebral palsy. Unfortunately, most of the mothers I have talked to are not aware of the risks they encounter during pregnancy as well as the various effects of these risks on their babies.

Seven Tips to Relieve Your Aching Back

Whether it’s from playing golf, working in the yard or simply sitting at a desk, statistics show that two-thirds of U.S. adults will experience back pain in their lifetime.

In your day-to-day activities, are you putting unnecessary strain on your back? Here are some ways to protect your back and relieve back pain:

* Stand up straight. Good posture will relieve pressure from your lower back.

* Stay fit. Exercise is important for keeping your muscles strong and maintaining a healthy weight. Being overweight puts more of a strain on the back. People who exercise infrequently also are more prone to back injury because their muscles are not accustomed to the exertion.

* Have an ergonomic work area. Your chair should support your lower back and help you maintain good posture. If you work on a computer, the screen should be positioned so that you do not have to tilt your head up or bend your neck down to see it. Sitting in the same position for a long period of time also strains your back. Get up from your desk and walk around several times a day.

* Evaluate your mattress. A mattress that is too soft or too firm can be a major culprit in back pain. Flip your mattress several times a year to keep it from wearing out in the spot where you sleep.

* Lift properly. Keep your back in its natural position and bend your knees. Do not twist your body or bend at the waist while lifting. If something is too heavy, do not lift it by yourself; ask for help.

* Try yoga. Yoga involves special stretching exercises that will loosen the muscles in your back.

* Use a pain relieving patch. The Absorbine Jr. Back Patch, for instance, was developed to target back pain with deep, penetrating heat. The blend of menthol, camphor and eucalyptus oil goes straight to the point of pain to relieve back spasms and muscle aches. According to the manufacturer, it relieves chronic back pain for up to eight hours.

Tips About Electric Trolling Motors.

Electric trolling motors are being found more and more often onboard many fishing boats. Boaters are discovering the many benefits electric motors have to offer. Most notable the fact they operate in silence and that they are environmentally friendly. In addition, their popularity is not hurt by the rise in gas prices. These motors do require care that is different from the average gasoline powered motors.

Electric motors operate differently than gas motors, so it is no surprise that they need different care. Electric motors use batteries to supply them with power. This means they have a whole different way of powering up. Any fisherman that has or is buying an electric trolling motor needs to check out the follow list of tips.

- Charging replaces filling with fuel. It may be extremely simple to pour in a little gas to get the motor running, but with electric motors it does not work that way. Electric motors must be charged. They require a battery charger. This can be an onboard piece or a piece that is kept on shore. That is up to the individual fisherman. The batteries are made to be run down and charged often so there is no concern over ruining them. However, the manufactures directions should be followed to ensure the motor batteries are not ruined.

- Always check the motor out before use. Stray fishing lines can easily tangle in the motor and cause major damage. It only takes a brief moment for the damage to be done, but it also only takes a brief moment to look over the engine to prevent that from happening.

- Do routine maintenance. Like any type of motor an electric motor requires checks and routine maintenance. Parts should be checked to make sure they are secure and in good shape. Fisherman should not assume that electric means no worries. Maintenance is still important.

- The motor should always be monitored when charging. This prevents it from getting turned on accidentally. A motor that is left running can easily overheat and burn out.

- Be friendly to the motor. Electric motors have parts that are kept cool by being under water, so it is important that the fisherman does not run the motor out of the water. It is also important to keep general care in mind by not using the motor is weeds or mud.

These tips offer ways to prolong the life of and protect the electric trolling motor. Fisherman who are using an electric motor will benefit greatly from following these tips and any instructions offered by the manufacturer.

Save Time And Gas Earning Your Degree Online!

It used to be that if you wanted to go to college and earn a degree, you a little financial aid from your parents and a little more from a part time job. That worked when life moved at a slower pace, a few years back but in todays fast paced lifestyle, it would be near impossible to work and go to school simultaneously. There just isnt enough time in the day. Factor in the high cost of schooling and its easy to see why so many people are frustrated when trying to figure out a way to get a college education.

One thing you can do to make getting a degree more affordable is apply for grants and student loans. That will help with the cost of schooling itself but what about transportation from school and work? The cost of gasoline is forcing many people to simply stay home. One remedy would be to earn your degree at home with an online course.

Because of the increasing demand, many universities are developing online classes and programs today. A quick Google search will reveal dozens of well known universities that offer courses. Colorado Tech University has a program that is very much like attending the university offline. You start by paying your $50 enrollment fee and then work towards getting accepted into your classes. Just like being in the offline world you will be interviewed and assessed, youll have to prove yourself before you can start class.

If you are thinking that entry to an online school has got to be easier that an offline one, think again. Before online schools will even consider you, you have to write a reason why they should consider your application. Youll be asked questions that will be centered on why you want to get a degree, why you think you could master the courses and why you chose their particular school. Going through this process is common among online universities these days so be prepared to make a good impression.

Now if youre thinking that going to school online is going to save you a ton of money, not so. A college education is expensive. Weather you go offline or online, be prepared to spend a small fortune for your education if you are going for more than just a basic degree.
Associates, Doctrines, Masters, PHD or Bachelors degrees are pretty much necessities if you want to get ahead of the competition. In fact, even an Associate Degree doesnt hold the status that it once did. That being said, the standard degree will cost you around 20 thousand dollars and that is a conservative amount.

Instead of the traditional classrooms with a professor, your classrooms will be labs and chat rooms where you can go online to get help with about anything you need. You WILL need to learn and exercise MPA/APA style, since this is the best method for online courses. Common courses offline focus on various other styles, but online you will have to master APA/MPL otherwise you may face penalties.

There are a few colleges online, such as Professional Career Development that are less extreme but you will be earning nothing more than a degree, or else Associates. These classes are inexpensive and the workload is less dramatic so for some this is a plus. The downside is you will not have cyber libraries with this college. You can receive help from instructors, but as in most cases you do get what you pay for – you have to reach long and far to get the help you will need to earn your degree.

Why Did Jellicoe Turn Away at the Battle of Jutland?

At the time the First World War, the British Grand Fleet was the most formidable naval force in the world. Commanded by Admiral John Jellicoe, the British Grand Fleet hoped to engage the German High Seas Fleet in a pitched battle, but at the same time, both sides were reluctant to commit themselves.

The Germans knew that they could not take on the much larger British Grand Fleet, while the British knew they had little to gain from a victory and everything to lose by a defeat. Victory over the German High Seas Fleet would not harm Germanys war effort in the slightest, whilst defeat – unlikely but possible – would cause Britain to lose the war.

The German High Seas Fleet, commanded by Admiral Reinhard von Scheer, planned to avoid an all-out battle until they could sink enough British warships to make the numbers more even. To this end, the German battlecruisers carried out numerous attacks on British coastal towns to lure Royal Navy battleships out to sea where they could be sunk by waiting German submarines.

By May 1916, Admiral Scheer decided to put the entire German High Seas Fleet to sea with the intention of sending ahead the German battlecruiser squadron under Admiral Hipper as a decoy to lure out the British battlecruisers. Hipper would then lead the British battlecruisers straight toward the might of the German battleships.

However, unknown to Scheer, the British were able to decode German radio messages and, sensing German action, Admiral Jellicoe ordered the entire British Grand Fleet to sea at night to avoid the patrolling German submarines.

On May 31st 1916, the two most powerful naval forces were on a collision course with each other, but incredibly, neither knew each other was at sea! The two fleets would spectacularly collide off the mainland of Denmark – the stage for the Battle of Jutland had been set.

Visual contact was first made by the battlecruiser squadrons of both sides, sent ahead of the main fleets by their British and German commanders. Hipper turned around and lured the British battlecruisers, commanded by Admiral Beatty, toward the unseen but advancing main German battleship fleet.

Beatty’s battlecruisers suffered losses but he saw the German High Seas Fleet approaching in the distance and turned his battlecruisers around. The entire German fleet chased the British battlecruisers not realizing that Beatty had now turned the tables and was leading them towards Jellicoe and the massed guns of the main British fleet.

Facing almost certain destruction, Admiral Scheer carried out a brilliant maneuver. He ordered the entire German fleet to turn at the same time, making smoke to conceal their whereabouts and sail at full speed in the opposite direction away from the British guns.

Unbelievably, Scheer turned back toward the British Grand Fleet and this time Jellicoe was able to “cross the German T”, concentrating nearly all the British gunfire on a single advancing line of German battleships.

This time, turning alone would not save Scheer. As a desperate gamble he ordered a mass torpedo attack on the British fleet by his remaining destroyers.

Admiral Jellicoe now had his chance to destroy the German High Seas Fleet but instead he made the decision to turn away from the retreating Germans. He mistakenly believed that the Germans had developed a torpedo that left no trail of bubbles as it travelled through the water, and so was invisible.

Jellicoe was later heavily criticized for this action but the British Grand Fleet had already suffered many losses and the Germans had been routed. Facing the German torpedoes and further losses was a risk Jellicoe did not need to take.

The First Sea Lord Winston Churchill had famously remarked that Jellicoe was “the only commander on either side capable of losing the war in a single afternoon.” By turning away at the Battle of Jutland, Admiral Jellicoe ensured that Churchill’s remark didn’t turn into prophecy.

Diet After Forty

Death in middle life is usually due to the giving out of various vital parts of the body when subjected to strain. Nervous collapse, high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, apoplexy, heart failure and kidney disease are some of the types of functional diseases that are likely to set in at this time.

To meet this period successfully, certain precautions need to be observed.

1) Cut down on the amount of food eaten sufficiently to combat the tendency to put on weight.

2) Be very moderate in the use of meats, salts and condiments; take plenty of water.

3) Get plenty of fresh air and exercise, but avoid strenuous exertions which overfatigue and place undue strain on the heart.

4) Take more recreation and rest.

5) Cultivate mental hygiene; avoid nervous strain.

Although the same nutritive essentialsfuel, protein, mineral salts and vitaminsare required to nourish the body from the cradle to the grave, it should be emphasized that the amounts needed are less in the latter part of life, especially after seventy, than in the more active adult years.

There is no further need of tissue-building materials for growth, and the amount of these substances for tissue maintenance or repair is at a minimum. For this reason, the protein requirement in old age is reduced, while at the same time an excess of protein is more difficult for the body to handle than ever before.

The calorie requirement is also materially reduced for two reasons:

1) Less energy is used in muscular activity

2) Basal metabolism is lowered

It is far easier and wiser to cut down moderately on ones fuel intake and take more exercise when the tendency to put on weight first manifests itself, than to try to take off excess weight by radical dieting or excessive exercising later on. This advice should not be taken to support excessive reduction in the amount of fuel foods with the desire of attaining underweight, which is fully as undesirable as overweight.

Beyond a slight reduction in the amount of fuel foods and some care to keep down the consumption of meats and other protein-rich foods, no special modification of the diet is needed during this period.

What has been recommended as the best diet for maintaining the body in health and vigor during younger years continues to be optimum diet in later yearsnamely, a diet the basis of which is milk, cereal products, fruits and vegetables, with moderate amounts of protein foods, fats and sugar. The importance of milk, whole grains, eggs and green vegetables as protective foods still holds good.

Do You Love Your Children Enough To Help Change Their World?

How much do you love your children? Most parents probably say they love their children more than anything else. But how true is that statement? Answer a few questions and find out.

1.    Do you love your children enough to spend time with them, and by your example, show them the right way to live their lives?

2.    Do you love them enough to abstain from habits and addictions that will lead to personal pain and destruction in the not-so-distant future?

3.    Do you love them enough to swap negative friends.ips for good ones, so your children will not be subjected to the same downward-cycle of relationships that have kept you from fulfilling your destiny in life?

4.    Do you love your children enough to be faithful to your spouse, and treat her with the love and respect she deserves, so they learn the stability of a righteous home and marriage?

Some of the most destructive influences in childhood development are: negligent or absentee parents, addictive parental examples, negative external relationships (bad friends), and divorce.

We can’t wave a magic wand and make every negative influence go away, but if we work diligently to change the environment within our home, our children’s future will reflect those changes in many positive and rewarding ways. And that’s where love comes into play. If you really love your children like you say you do, then you’ll willingly change your lifestyle, behavior, attitude, and friendships, to create the right environment for their proper development.

Need a few examples? Start here: If your friends are drunks – get new friends. Unless of course, you don’t mind your children growing up to become addicts, as well. Statistics show that children who live under the influence of alcoholism, are likely to become alcoholics themselves. Is that really what you want your children to become? No? Then you better make whatever changes are necessary early one, and stay consistent, if you hope to positively impact their future-lives as adults.

Need more proof? Look at the statistics, and make your own assumptions. Negative relationships lead to destructive social behavior in children.

o    Physically abusive relationships teach your children a lifestyle of destructive or even violent behavior.

o    Unfaithfulness to your spouse will teach your children to be unfaithful to theirs.

o    Parents who lie, cheat and steal, can expect their children to grow up and live by the same shameful rules of engagement.

What’s the secret to parental success? Train your children to do what’s right, to live right, to choose right relationships, to abstain from illicit sexual behavior, and lead them into a right relationship with God. In other worlds; clean up your child’s world, and set the right example, and the outcome will be dramatically different than if you live your life any other way.

Here’s a short checklist that will help you guide your children toward successful adulthood.

o    Clean up your home: make your home child-friendly and kid-safe.

o    Rid their environment of drugs, alcohol, abusive situations and relationships. In other words: You must lose the losers, and fill their life with positive friends and influences – you won’t be sorry you did.

o    Don’t be afraid to tell your children NO. Remember, you’re the parent – so act like one!

o    Don’t be an absentee parent. Be involved in your children’s lives. How can you set the standard by which your children live, if you’re never home? Why have children in the first place, if you don’t want to spend time with them?

o    Here’s some great ideas for interacting with your kids:

1.    Pick a hobby and do it together. When our kids were growing up, we had horses. The motto of the horse crowd was: “Horses – not drugs.”

2.    Have their friends come to your house, instead of shipping your children off to be influenced by people you don’t know. How can you do that? Make your home an inviting place – and let your children’s friends welcome, so they will want to hang out there. Think about it: children get into trouble when they’re left unsupervised. It’s OK to let them hang out at their friends homes, on occasion, but not every day and night. If you want to impact your children, then you need to spend time with them.

3.    Set safeguards for your children, even when they are out of the home. How? Talk to the parents of your children’s friends. Make sure their home is kid-safe, too. It does no good to kid-safe your home, if they are free to do all the wrong things at their friends place. (This is where the “choose friends wisely” suggestion comes into play)

4.    Forget the PTA shuffle. You don’t have to let your children play every night. Teach them responsibility. It’s good for them. Make time for fun, certainly, but not always. What you do with them, is more important than you will ever know. Here’s a few helpful hints: when you have to run errands, pay bills or get groceries, take your children with you, and spend this time engaging them in meaningful conversation.

5.    Don’t leave you children unattended. When you aren’t home, you need to find a good, safe home for them to stay at while you’re away, or take them with you. That’s what we did. We took them along with us when we went places; like grocery shopping, paying bills, etc. Wee found this to be a great time to interact with our children, talk about their lives, and just be the parent. If you have an eye for making the most of every parental opportunity, this can actually be a good one.

Train them to do right – to live right. That’s your responsibility. Start by setting a solid example. You can’t expect your children to become something you’re not. “Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they’re old, they won’t depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6 KJV)

A Good Place to Start:

o    Introduce them to a real, life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Don’t rob faith from their hearts. Share your living faith with them – so it will guide their life, as it has guided yours.

o    Many parents start well – they take their children to church while they’re young, but when they grow older – and need God the most – parents start living a, altogether different lifestyle, and by doing so, they rob their children of the most important relationship they could ever have – a dynamic friendship with the Lord.

o    Drugs: Starting before your children are even born – make this the habit for your life. Never do drugs, or allow drug use in your family circle. Remember: what children see you and your friends doing, they will grow up doing themselves.

o    Choose the right friends. Never forget; real friends do not verbally, physically, emotionally or sexually abuse you or your children. Do whatever it takes to forever remove such people out of your life. As the parent, it is your responsibility to help your children learn how to select/ choose good friends. Be proactive, stay involved, and help them make right choices early on. You’ll be surprised by how a sound training helps change the outcome of their lives.

o    Safeguard them against Internet pornography and chatroom abuse: The Internet can be a wonderful tool for students, or even a great way to connect socially. But according to stats, the Internet is more likely to become a negative influence in the lives of your children. Listen up parents – never allow your children unsupervised or unfiltered access to the Internet. The solution is simple: Keep the computer in a public living space, or place parentally-selectable filters on your system, to keep your children from EVER entering these domains.

Bottom line: Never forget who is the parent. If you love your children enough, you will do whatever you have to do to protect the innocence of your children – and keep it that way. Whatever you subject your children to: racism, abuse, critical attitudes, addictions, immoral practices (Lying, stealing, cheating, violence, porn); those influences will shape their own lifestyle, forever.

You need to decide, early on, how valuable your children’s success really is to you, and construct a lifestyle that will help them grow into their righteous destiny.

Never forget: there is only one influence in life that has the potential to positively guide your children into adulthood, more than you, and that is a personal relationship with God. That potential will only be realized, however, if you take your rightful place as a parent, and teach them to love Him.

Raising great kids is a challenge, but if you are willing to show them the way, the results will be more rewarding for you, than anything else you could ever do in life.

Dribbling Your Way Out Of Trouble

Learning to play basketball is a lot of hard work. One of the most basic things a player has to learn is dribbling. Dribbling is the act of bouncing the ball continuously with one hand in a repetitive motion which ends when the continuity is disturbed or when the player touches the ball with both hands simultaneously. The ball must be continuously redirected to the floor so that the dribble isn’t ended. It can also end when the ball is allowed to rest on the hands of the player and when the ball is allowed to be moved parallel or fractionally to the court using one hand.

Are Link Exchanges Harming Your Business?

Many of the top search engine optimization gurus tell us that we must perform link exchanges and lots of them in order to reach the top of the search engines.

But is this still true?

Once if certainly was the case and that was enough to get yourself ranked highly. Nowadays, with the huge rise in Internet usage and websites, the search engines have wised up to this and have complex algorithms for working out your ranking. These are, of course, a closely guarded secret known to a few geeks on the inside, and guessed at by those on the outside.

Many of the search engine optimization experts are now telling us to be wary of link exchanges and to consider the following key points.

1) Link farms if your link is in what the search engines classify as a link farm then it could harm your ranking. A link farm is typically a site full of links, or a page with a high number of links on them. If the link farm is organised into categories with only a couple of dozen of relevant links per page, then it is less likely to harm your ranking.

2) Irrelevant sites – if your website is focused on children then having link exchanges with pharmacy and gambling sites could well harm your rankings because they are not really relevant. Having links to other childrens sites and sites related to children are possible much better for your rankings and will give your website more relevancy.

3) Anchor text the words that link from another site to yours are actually quite relevant to your search engine ranking. If the words hello stranger were a hyperlink to your site then it wouldnt really do you much good unless your site was about strangers. However, if your site was about children and your main keyword was good parenting and you had links from other sites with the words good parenting being the hyperlink, this will be looked upon favourably by the search engines

When you are exchanging links with anyone, it is worth your while being discerning about the links. Yes, I know you want as many links as possible, but you should consider the relevancy of the links to your visitors, and also what your visitors would think of those links being on your site. If you had a site full of childrens games and educational material and then lots of links to adult related sites, how keen do you think parents would be for their children to visit your sites?

Always check out if a site you are linking to has an affiliate program. If they do, then it is worth you signing up for it and putting the affiliate link on your site. Why? Because then when someone follows the link and buys, you get paid for it!

By keeping your link exchanges relevant you can increase your standing in the search engines and give your readers valuable extra resources.

Expat shopping

Sampling the local food in another country can be an eye opening and often rewarding experience for those expats who are willing to be open minded. Depending on what country you are living in as an expat, will depend on just how open minded you have to be.

There is a phrase that says “you can take the man out of the city, but you can’t take the city out of the man.” The same can be said for your tastes. How many times have we heard the typical Brits say “you can’t get a proper cup of tea in spain”, or “that’s not real bacon!”. That is probably the truth, but you have to bear in mind that you are not in the UK.

Whilst most of us are happy to try new foods and new tastes, most of us still miss the tastes we have been brought up with. One of the problems you face by living in foreign country, is the fact that you cannot get hold of the food you are used to back home.

The Internet has no doubt made the world a smaller place. Combine that with modern travel, and the world is your oyster. If oyster is not your taste, then maybe baked beans are!

There are a number of expat shopping websites that have been developed to cater for the needs of expatriates missing the taste of home. In this modern lifestyle we have, most things are readily available in most countries, but there are still things that are unique to specific countries. This is where expat shopping can help.

One of the expat shopping sites we have teamed up with at Xpatpals, is the Coop in Wooldale, located in the UK. From their site, you can order your goods online and they will have them shipped out to you. They offer worldwide shipping and can have your goods with you within 2-3 days if you are in Europe, or anywhere from 5-10 days for other countries worldwide.

If you are longing to taste that special something you miss from back home, it may be worthwhile giving expat shopping a try. Just think, within a few days, you could be starting your morning with a proper bacon sandwich, smothered with brown sauce. Enough to make your mouth water!

We have focused on expat shopping that is available from the UK. If you know of shopping that is available from other countries, catering for different nationalities, then why not start a topic in the forums. Sharing your information on expat shopping sites will help your fellow expats.

The Good And The Bad About The Carb

The obsession with health rages on in our country and around the world. People are consumed by counting their calories and by getting in an extra few minutes at the gym. We want the bodies that Hollywood tells us are not only possible but easy to have. Much of our pursuit of health is actually a pursuit of physical perfection and a level of beauty that we will probably never attain. We hear a lot lately about the carb and about how we should cut the carb out of our diet as much as possible.

The thing about the carb – or carbohydrate – is that there is a good side and a bad side to it. Let’s start with the good side of the carb. Anyone who has ever chased a toddler around for an afternoon knows that life takes energy to make it through each day. Especially as we get older, we need more energy to make it through the days. The carb is a great source of energy that can help us stay awake and maintain high energy levels throughout our days. All of these fad diets that teach us to cut out all of the carbs from our diets are seriously mistaken and they don’t take into account the fact that we need energy to live! So don’t be sucked into a fad diet that requires you to go no-carb. It just isn’t healthy.

On the other hand (there is always another hand in health), don’t allow yourself to go carb crazy either. You cannot live long or live well by consuming any kind of food you want whenever you want it. Anyone who is halfway interested in doing something good for their health should carefully watch the amount of carbs they consume. A short appointment with your physician or with a dietician can be a great way to get on the right path to health.

The carb is great because it gives us energy, but it can be bad when it is overconsumned because it turns into sugar and hence into fat if the energy is not burned off. So the key with the carb is balance. Don’t eat so few that you don’t have the strength or energy to make it through your day, but don’t eat so many that you have excess sugar that turns to fat.

Take your health seriously and make an appointment to talk with an expert before your health gets any further out of hand. Take control of your health by learning the truth about the carb.

History Of The Computer; Analog Or Digital?

In ‘History of the Computer – the emergence of Electronics’, we saw how the development of Radar during the second world war led to an understanding of pulse technology. At the same time methods were refined for the calculations required for the ballistic trajectories. From these beginnings, the digital computer was developed.

What is meant by ‘Analog’ and ‘Digital’? A couple of examples will explain the difference. An analog is something which is analogous, obviously, but you may know that an analogous process or function is one that is equivalent, or very similar to another one. An analogy is often used to explain, or to assist the understanding of, some new feature in terms that are understood.

For example a home electric circuit for house wiring to operate a lamp. The supply is controlled by a circuit breaker, when it is available at the outlet where the lamp is plugged. This can be compared to plumbing, where the water supply is controlled by a valve or tap on entering the home, then pipes carry the water to the kitchen, where the supply can be turned on or off by a tap or faucet, and is immediately available. The rate of flow of the water can be controlled, which is analogous to a dimmer on the lamp.

The analogy is not absolutely the same, but aids in the understanding of the electricity supply by someone who knows the plumbing system.

Digital, concerning digits or numbers, refers to the use of numbers to represent all things. As an example, a digital watch uses numbers to indicate the time. The numbers on the face of traditional watch are distributed around the dial, so that the hands pointing to them are analogous to the passage of time. For example the minute hand pointing straight down, half way through the circle of the clock, represents the passing of half an hour. If the hour hand is pointing to the number 3, this indicates 3 hours of the 12 for a complete circuit. When we learnt to tell the time we knew that this was half past three. The digital watch however says 3:30.

Closer to our topic, we can consider the evolution of the gramophone record. The vinyl LP was the standard medium for music recording and playing from the 1950s, tape recordings were also developed in parallel. Both these media use a modulation system, where the amplitude, or strength, of the modulation is proportional, or analogous, to the loudness of the original live singing or playing. This music had been converted by a microphone into a variable electrical signal, analogous to the sound.

With the invention in the 1980s of the Compact Disc, digital techniques were employed to represent the changes in sound levels, by using a sampling pulse to monitor the loudness of the sound. This sampling pulse is used at a high frequency, so that it is not audible, and traces the progress of the sound. The principle is analogous to the movie camera where a sequence of still pictures are shown at a rate of 32 frames per second, so that they appear to show a moving picture. Similarly a tv uses a frame rate of 50 or 60 per second (strictly speaking 25 0r 30 interlaced).

The big advantage of a digital recording and reproduction system (amplifiers etc are also digital) is that, due to the nature of the high frequency pulses, it is possible to copy them exactly when transferring from one medium to another, for example copying a from cd track to compilation cd. With an analogue system there are losses in every transfer, so that a recording on a cassette tape copied from a vinyl lp via a home stereo is noticeably poorer quality than the original.

A computer can also be analog or digital, though the digital type have vastly outgrown the analog. An analog computer might be used in research work, where, for instance a record may be made on a moving chart of the temperature and humidity in a room being air conditioned by a new design air conditioner, the chart could also be a display on screen. Either way, the graph is an analog representation of the temperature and pressure.

Early electronic controls in aircraft were run by a form of analog computer, the amount the ailerons moved was proportional to the movement of the joystick, but not directly proportional. A calculation was performed, which depended on the speed and height of the aircraft, and other factors. The electronic ‘boxes’ involved linear amplifiers and variable response circuits, all fed by sensors from the flight controls etc.

Subsequent articles in this series are concerned only with digital computers. We look at how they are put together, and how they perform, in simple steps, more and more advanced calculations.

IT Service: Handling Prepaid Blocks of Time

The prepaid block of time is different from the service agreement. The IT service agreement is specific about the kinds of things you will do maintenance, upgrades, etc. The prepaid block of time is simply that time.

For example, the customer recognizes that your normal hourly rate is $100 an hour. In return for prepaying 20 hours of time, theyre going to get a $10 an hour discount.

Get Your IT Service Agreement in Writing

You may still want to have some sort of agreement about having a single point of contact, software licensing, and the confidentiality clauses. In general, though, its just a matter of saying that we normally charge this. In return for the customer prepaying X number of hours, theyre going to get this discount, and then its a matter of setting up your accounting. Most importantly, you need to be able to generate a renewal notice when theyre pretty close to using up their time.

Obviously the huge advantage is youre getting the cash flow upfront and you dont have to worry about getting stuck on a receivable. The disadvantage is its not quite as recurring as the retainer-based agreement because youre selling a fixed priced with a definite beginning and a definite end to IT service as opposed to more definite long-term possibilities.

Make Sure You’re Providing Valuable IT Service

The best thing to do is to make sure that you set them up on some kind of proactive regimen and that youre in touch with them on a regular basis to make sure that youre taking care of their ongoing security. You need to make sure the backup is running properly and the relatively small things that are happening in the office are documented and prioritized so that you can fix them.

Dont allow the prepaid time block to get you into the mode where its more of a one-shot deal with IT service. You want to make sure that everything you do is setting things up for long-term relationships.
